African cinema legend Sembene Ousmane still an inspiration to many

Sembene Ousmane, one of the great figures of African cinema, would have turned 100 this year. He directed acclaimed films like ‘Camp de Thiaroye’ and ‘Guelwaar’ and was well known for his interest in social justice. He also wrote novels, translated into English under the titles ‘Black Docker’ and ‘God’s Bits of Wood’. A number of events are scheduled throughout 2023 to pay homage to Sembene Ousmane in his country of origin, Senegal.
