Abuja: The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADITOP) has officially declared its dissociation from the planned nationwide strike by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and its affiliates. This statement was made by the National President of ADITOP, Alhaji Lawan Dan-Zaki, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, NUPENG had previously announced their plan to initiate a nationwide strike starting Monday, citing anticipated nationwide fuel shortages. The strike is a protest against what NUPENG describes as anti-labour practices associated with the deployment of newly imported Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks by the Dangote Refinery. These trucks are intended for the direct distribution of petroleum products.
The initiative by Dangote aims to reduce logistics costs, improve energy efficiency, promote sustainability, and support Nigeria’s economic development. Dan-Zaki emphasized that the proposed strike by NUPENG was unnecessary and expressed ADITOP’s support for Dangote’s new distribution strategy.
In his statement, Dan-Zaki highlighted that Dangote’s transformational efforts are expected to bring order to the industry, stabilize supply and distribution, and create jobs and new skills for millions of unemployed Nigerians. He reaffirmed ADITOP’s position to continue the transportation of petroleum products across the country without fear of interference.
ADITOP expressed its commitment to any distribution scheme that facilitates seamless delivery of petroleum products to end users and fosters economic development.
