Adams Urges Federal and Lagos State Governments to Enhance Badagry’s Tourism Potential

Badagry: The Are-Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land and Chief Promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation, Chief Gani Adams, has called upon both the Federal and Lagos State governments to implement policies aimed at transforming Badagry into a prominent global tourism destination. Adams made this appeal during the 2025 Olokun World Festival, held at Kakanfo-Falola Beach in Badagry, Lagos State.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adams highlighted the historical significance of Badagry as a leading tourist destination in Nigeria. He emphasized the recent developments that position Badagry to reclaim its status on the global tourism map. Adams stressed the need for government support through policies that would enhance the infrastructural development of the ancient town. He noted that the long-standing issue of the poor condition of the major road through Badagry is nearing resolution with the almost complete overhaul of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Adams also expressed optimism about the potential for tourism growth with the launch of Kakanfo-Falola Beach, indicating that efforts would be intensified to exploit Badagry’s tourism opportunities. He shared that since the inception of the festival in Badagry, the town has experienced significant developments attributed to the spiritual influence of Olokun and Olosa deities. The number of traditional rulers in the area has increased dramatically, and Badagry is now recognized as an oil-producing region with the discovery of crude oil in multiple locations.

Speaking about the Olokun Festival, Adams remarked that the event, which began 23 years ago at Alpha Beach in Lagos, has evolved into a significant cultural celebration attracting global attention. The festival has now found a permanent home at Kakanfo-Falola Beach, transitioning from its previous location at Suntan Beach.

In his address, Adams acknowledged the support of the Akran of Badagry, De-Wheno Aholu Toyi 1, and expressed gratitude to the attending royal fathers for their commitment to promoting the cultural identity of the Yoruba people both locally and internationally.
