Accra 2023: Joe Paul, Cadman win gold for Ghana in track and field event


It was a flurry of gold for Team Ghana in the track and field event, as Joseph Paul Amoah and Cadman Evans Yamoah picked up gold medals for Ghana at the 13th African Games.

Joseph Paul Amoah, a former 200m national record holder, emerged victorious in the 200m men’s race with an impressive time of 20.70 seconds, clinching Ghana’s only gold on the track.

Following the disappointment of not winning gold in the 100m race and the 4x100m relay, Joseph Paul went into Friday’s pressure with huge pressure, especially having dominated the heats and semis.

But Joe Paul demonstrated his resilience as he narrowly edged Cameroon’s Claude Emmanuel Itoungue Bogognie, who clocked a time of 20.74 seconds.

Nigeria’s Consider Emmanuel picked up the bronze medal in the 200m finals after missing out on a medal in the 100m race.

It was double gold for Ghana in the men’s and women’s high jump. Cadman Evans Yamoah cleared an impressive height of 2.23m to win gold.

He replicates the success of Rose Yeboah, who earlier in the we
ek picked up gold in the women’s high jump and retained her African Games crown, having also won gold in Rabat five years ago.

This brings Ghana’s medal count in athletics at the 13th African Games to six in the track and field event.
