Christians urged to avoid forming ungodly alliances

Pastor Enoch Obeng-Quainoo, the Associate Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church-Ghana, Glory and Power Centre at Kweikuma, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, has called on Christians to avoid engaging themselves in associations which were ungodly.

He gave the advice in a sermon on the theme: ‘Avoiding ungodly alliance’, quoting from 2 Chronicles 18: 1-34 and 2 Kings 11:1.

He admonished believers to seek the face of God first before getting involved in any kind of relationship, be it friendship or relationships meant for marriages.

Pastor Obeng-Quainoo said: ‘Some alliances are death pits in disguise, so we must beware of the devil’s scheme and refrain from any ungodly connections’.

He urged Christians to always hold unto God through renewed faith and not forsake the assembly of the saints, as that was the only means to get saved in times of troubles.

‘As believers, we must be careful of the connections we seek, and who and what we copy, while staying focused on the word of God during our trying times’
, he added.

Pastor Obeng-Quainoo, therefore, called on the clergymen to intensify the spread of the gospel to help get their members rooted in the teachings of God for their salvation.

Stakeholders must expedite passage of Alcohol Control Legislative Instrument – GhanAPA

The Alcohol Policy Alliance – Ghana (GhanAPA), a civil society organisation has called on the Minister of Health, the Attorney-General and Parliament to swiftly pass the Alcohol Control Legislative Instrument to save lives, especially young persons.

It stated that alcohol is a psycho-active, toxic and dependence-producing substance and that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), no level of alcohol consumption is safe for human health.

A statement by the GhanAPA and copied to the Ghana News Agency said some of the risk factors of alcohol consumption were traumatic experiences, sexual or physical abuse, mental health issues such as depression or anxiety, substance use disorders, and learning disabilities like attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

It stated that regulating the hours, days and intensity of alcohol outlets and raising the national legal age limit for drinking and consuming alcohol was another effective strategy used to reduce alcohol use and harm.

‘Currently in Ghana, the nati
onal legal minimum age for consumption of alcohol is 18 years however, the WHO has stated that the recommended minimum age should be 25 years as research has found out that young adults below 25 years are still developing their learning, memory and mental capacities, including dementia and poor school performance,’ the statement said.

It said alcohol intake impacted the younger generation below the minimum age of 25 years with harms including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive problems, cancer of the breast, mouth, throat, oesophagus, voice box, liver, colon, rectum and weakening of the immune system.

The GhanAPA said during Christmas festivities drivers should avoid the consumption of alcohol to reduce the risk of speeding, blurry vision, and poor judgement, which would lead to severe road crashes resulting in deaths, disabilities and loss to families.

It urged all Ghanaians to heed to the call for all to be caring and responsible by avoiding alcohol consumption.

The Gha
nAPA was formed in 2019 by an amalgamation of nine civil society organisations (CSOs) working towards advancing a vision of a healthy nation through policy development and advocacy and has a mission of contributing to the elimination of alcohol-related harms in Ghana.

Its institutional membership now stands at 12 independent CSOs.

CICG: Experiencing the ‘Intelligent Production in Zhongshan’

On December 9, the visiting delegation consists of translation celebrities and foreign media hosted by the CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation – ‘Experience the Vitality of Zhongshan Tour’ visited the ‘Intelligent Production in Zhongshan’ in-depth. In April 2022, the three Chinese astronauts who docked in orbit for six months for the first time returned to the earth and triumphed, making the world pay attention to them, and the equipment that ‘convoyed’ them included ‘Intelligent Production in Zhongshan’: On the China Space Station, two aerospace microwave ovens that provided them with cooking services for three meals a day came from the Galanz Group Zhongshan Base; the ‘convoying chair’ where the astronauts were lying after leaving the warehouse was also developed and manufactured by a Zhongshan Enterprise – Sitting Sense Technology Co., Ltd.

According to Chen Min, head of Sitting Sense Technology, the company’s R and D team spent half a year boldly innovating and developing this special chair i
n many ways, which can comprehensively and effectively cushion the head, neck, waist and hips of astronauts, playing a role in supporting the whole body, and helping astronauts who have lived in space for a long time to adapt to Earth’s gravity. Behind the ‘convoying’ is the accumulated strength of this national high-tech private enterprise in the field of office seat R and D and manufacturing for more than 20 years.

‘It doesn’t look any different from other chairs, but why is it so comfortable to sit on?’ The members of the delegation praised an office chair after experiencing sitting on it. Chen Min said that unlike general office chairs, which are based on ergonomics, Sitting Sense Technology advocates re-designing office chairs from a medical perspective, researching and developing chairs based on human biomechanics theories such as rehabilitation and chiropractic to make them more suitable for human needs. Nowadays, Sit Sense Technology has been highly recognized by overseas consumers and has become a s
eat provider for many Forbes Top500 companies and large international conferences.

At the Galanz Group’s Zhongshan Base, the delegation visited its ‘smart factory’ – a microwave oven production workshop up close: hundreds of robots waving its arms, after firmly ‘grabbing’ parts with suction cups, quickly and accurately placed them in the corresponding position of the machine tool. After processing the parts, the next robot ‘took them away’ to start the next processing stage. Zou Nengji, vice president of Galanz Group, said that since the transformation of the production of civil microwave ovens in the early 1990s, Galanz has accumulated the experience of research and development over more than three decades. After the long-term technological innovation, it has now broken through the technical barriers of foreign manufacturers, has many core technologies in the field of microwave ovens, and has achieved global leadership in the production and sale of microwave ovens.

From industrial city to strong industrial
city to high-quality development, the ‘Intelligent Production in Zhongshan’ has not only burst out the innovation vitality of the private economy in Zhongshan, but also a broader development platform.

Accra Hearts of Oak were denied all three points after Richard Danso scored in second-half stoppage time to salvage a point for Nations FC.

Olympics halt Kotoko’s winning streak as they hold them in Kumasi

Accra Great Olympics blocked Asante Kotoko from recording five wins on the bounce after holding them to a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in their match week 15 fixture of the Ghana Premier League.

The Accra based club which was playing as the home team proved to be a tough customer for Kotoko who had won all their four matches preceding the encounter.

A win for either side would have strengthened their positions on the league log thereby setting the tone for a cagey encounter which failed to produce any goal.

It was an even possession for the first ten minutes as both teams kept their composure and carefully built their attacks from their own halves.

No clear chance was created by either side after the first quarter of an hour as they maintained tactical discipline which left little spaces for them to exploit.

It was not until the 33rd minute that Kotoko came close to scoring the opener but Steve Mukwala’s effort was too slow, allowing the visitors to make clearance before he could hit the ball.

The Ugandan import connected a corner kick two minutes later with a powerful header from close range, forcing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to make a spectacular save.

The match remained barren for the rest of the half as referee Imoro Osman brought proceedings to an end.

Asante Kotoko was the first to threaten Olympics when the match resumed as they hit the ground running with a swift attack which failed to produce the much needed opener.

The Porcupine Warriors continued to press their opponents in search of an early goal to unsettle the ‘Dade Boy’ who proved to be a force to reckon with in the first half.

As the two teams failed to break the virginity of the game 20 minutes into the second half, both coaches made substitutions in an attempt to vary their tactics for the last 20 minutes.

The changes would not alter the pattern of play that much as Kotoko continued to maintain their slight dominance.

With ten minutes to end proceedings, both teams stepped up their game in their quest to secure the maximum p
oints as they created decent chances at both ends of the field.

Richmond Lamptey could have sealed victory for the Porcupines on the 88th minute when he missed target by a whisker following a combination of passes in the box.

The match ended goalless after six minutes stoppage time as the two teams shared the spoi.
